Hi Mike,

I would start by first verifying that your mapfile is working properly, 
by executing the map2img commandline tool, with your mapfile (see 
https://mapserver.org/utilities/map2img.html ).  Also, if you are having 
troubles seeing MapServer error messages in your app (such as 
OpenLayers), you can set the MS_ERRORFILE environment variable, so the 
MapServer errors are recorded in a file (see 
https://mapserver.org/optimization/debugging.html#mapfile-example-map-level-debug 
).
